MARUTI DZIRE
The notchback Swift is just 40cm longer than the hatch, and is mostly the same car. But converting something conceived as a hatch into a three-box, always poses a styling dilemma, and Maruti were not really successful. The Dzire though inherits both the 1.3-litre petrol and the fabulous 1.3-litre DDi multijet diesel from the Swift, which means it packs a decent punch. Just that when ferrying five people and their luggage, the petrol struggles, whereas the diesel still delights. Dynamically too, the Dzire acquits itself well.
